Day 15/180: correcting the reactions lab

These short Wednesdays are strange to me, and I completely see the benefit to teachers.

In class, students followed a prescribed list of points to correct a classmate’s lab from yesterday. Then, they started work on a review worksheet for Friday’s test.

I get why it’s good for them to see others’ errors, but I wonder how much reflection they’re doing on their own performance. When entering scores into the grade book, I noticed that kids either understood balancing equations or didn’t, and there was a 10-point difference between the two. The kids who did get it had been trained in freshman science. Everyone else hadn’t.

I’m worried for the previously-untrained kids’ tests.
